“Yep, gotta walk Braun and Fielder, pitch to McGehee.”
Bottom of the 10th, runner on 3rd with two outs, Ryan Braun batting. Fernando Salas pitches to Braun and induces a ground ball to 3B to end the inning. I
don’t like the IBB 80% of time and I really don’t like walking two batters to load the bases. StL won 8-7 in 11. Tony LaRussa knows what he’s doing. Prime
example of why writer and analyst are two different jobs.

“Did Clint Hurdle Blow 3 Games Last Week?”
Good read here about a manager’s propensity to save his closer in a tie game on the road in extra innings. It’s an old school adage I don’t agree with. I
understand the 9th or maybe the 10th, but much after that you better have a really deep bullpen, most teams don’t.

First, SI’s Peter King: Interesting but not too surprising: Just got stiffed at Panther camp by Cam Newton. Chose not to talk to me post-evening practice.
JW: Bitching about Cam not doing an interview is petty @SI_PeterKing Too many of us n media think we are entitled to the time of people we cover.
JW:Celebrity media, we feel just as entitled as the athletes we demonize for self-entitlement.
That is an assumption many in the media make. Have to respect Jason as a prominent member pointing that out to colleagues. There’s a balance but
sometimes players just don’t have the time or energy, that has to be understood and appreciated, not tweeted to 600K people who may now think Cam
Newton is a bad guy.

Doug Fister threw a 3-0, belt high 83 MPH change-up to Jose Bautista. He took it for strike one. The 3-0 take sign is dumb.
When you get the green light 3-0 you’re looking for one pitch and one pitch only, a fastball in your favorite spot to crush one. Swinging at a 3-0 change-up,
even a bad one, will almost always result in a ball hit off the sweet spot or off balanced and your teammates wondering if it’s your first time playing baseball.
Not much looks worse than making an out on a 3-0 pitch, especially on a change-up. 3-0 take is usually the right call, taking a 3-0 change-up is always the
right decision. Dave is a good read at FanGraphs, he just missed here.
